The first part of the work is a facsimile of Burke\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Pedigree of the Family of Darwin<\/em>, which was first published privately in 1888 in an edition of only sixty copies. Compiled by Sir Henry Farnham Burke (1859-1930, Garter King of Arms and grandson of the founder of the eponymous&nbsp;<em>Peerage and Baronetage<\/em>), it was, as Freeman notes, \u2018the only full [pedigree] that has ever appeared in print\u2019 (p. vii) and reproduces both signatures and bookplates of a number of family members. However, it provides only cursory information on those who were not born Darwins and ends in 1888, so the text of the reprint is supplemented by Freeman\u2019s \u2018Commentary\u2019, which gives fuller information on non-Darwin family members (including Wedgwoods) and extends the pedigrees into the twentieth century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"806\" src=\"https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2605_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4070\" style=\"width:241px;height:555px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2605_02.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2605_02-130x300.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2605_02-152x350.jpg 152w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appendix 1 provide details of name variants \u2013 a useful souce of information for a family very susceptible to nicknames \u2013 and includes \u2018Flycatcher \u2013 Charles Robert Darwin\u2019, \u2018Useful Thomas \u2013 Thomas Wedgwood [&#8230;] from his making Queen\u2019s useful ware\u2019, and \u2018Rhadamanthus minor \u2013 Henrietta Emma Litchfield [&#8230;] by Thomas Henry Huxley, from her strictness when correcting manuscript\u2019 (pp. 62-64).
