It won both the Woolfson Prize for History and the Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year Award.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"559\" src=\"https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2819_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2819_02.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2819_02-188x300.jpg 188w, https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2819_02-219x350.jpg 219w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This copy appears to have been originally inscribed by the author to Biddy Barlow on 2 October 2002, and then at a later point Dalrymple has added the name of her husband, the physician and psychiatrist Erasmus Barlow, and the words \u2018With best wishes\u2019 with a different pen. Erasmus Barlow FRCPsych, FZS was the great-grandson of Charles Darwin, and was educated at Marlborough College, Trinity College, Cambridge (where Dalrymple had also studied), and University College Hospital.
