This issue of&nbsp;<em>Matrix<\/em>&nbsp;records some of his many interests and enthusiasms\u2019 (introduction). The issue includes articles on \u2018Gibbings and Gill: Arcady in Berkshire\u2019 (Fiona MacCarthy), \u2018Some Correspondence between Robert Gibbings and Thomas Balston\u2019 (John Dreyfus), \u2018The Robert Gibbings Collection in Reading University Library\u2019 (Michael Bott), \u2018Robert Gibbings and the University of Reading\u2019 (Bott and Martin Andrews), and \u2018Robert Gibbings and the \u201cWillow\u201d\u2019 (Sue Walker and Andrews), and also Gibbings\u2019s memoir \u2018My Career in Medicine\u2019 and his illustrated \u2018Letter to Colette\u2019. Another centenary celebrated in this issue was that of Stanley Morison, who is commemorated in a survey of his correspondence with Jan van Krimpen by Sebastian Carter, and an article by Brooke Crutchley and David McKitterick.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"311\" src=\"https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/2916_03.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6824\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/2916_03.jpeg 350w, https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/2916_03-300x267.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Articles on printing presses include Sue Walker and Martin Andrews\u2019s \u2018Reminiscences of Albert Cooper\u2019 followed by Cooper\u2019s own \u2018Notes on the Printing Methods of the Golden Cockerel Press\u2019, Shirley Jones on work at the Red Hen Press, and Jonathan Stephenson\u2019s fascinating account of the printing at the Rocket Press of the original wood-engravings made by the Dalziel Brothers\u2019 from Sir John Tenniel\u2019s illustrations for Lewis Carroll\u2019s Alice books.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In typography, Fiona Ross discusses the transition from metal type to digital letterforms for Indian scripts, while Mark Arman writes on the use of printers\u2019 flowers; his article is accompanied by a four-page demonstration printed in black, red, and blue, covering arabesque and moresque designs, the work of Pierre Simon Fournier, an example of Victorian decoration, and adaptations of historic type decorations in the 1920s and 1930s.
