Title printed in red and black. Half-tone portrait frontispiece of Napoleon in Egypt after E. Detaille retaining tissue guard, 7 half-tone plates, and half-tone illustrations in the text. (Occasional very light spotting, a few very light marks, very light marginal damp-marking on frontispieces.) Original green cloth, boards ruled in blind, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, and decorated with gilt \u2018N\u2019-cipher. (Light spotting and offsetting on endpapers, extremities slightly rubbed and bumped, a few light marks.) A very good copy.&nbsp;<em>Provenance<\/em>: some entries marked in pencil and occasionally annotated by an early hand \u2013 traces of [?]booklabel on upper pastedown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"441\" src=\"https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/3017_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8631\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/3017_02.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/3017_02-238x300.jpg 238w, https:\/\/www.typeandforme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/3017_02-278x350.jpg 278w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First edition.<\/strong>&nbsp;The author, journalist, and collector Alexander Meyrick Broadley (1847-1916) was the author or co-author of a number of works on Napoleon and his era, including&nbsp;<em>Napoleon and the Invasion of England: The Story of the Great Terror&nbsp;<\/em>(London, 1908),&nbsp;<em>Nelson\u2019s Hardy: his Life, Letters and Friends&nbsp;<\/em>(London, 1909),&nbsp;<em>Dumouriez and the Defence of England against Napoleon&nbsp;<\/em>(London, 1909),&nbsp;<em>Napoleon in Caricature 1795-1821&nbsp;<\/em>(London, 1911), and&nbsp;<em>Napoleon in Exile&nbsp;<\/em>(London, 1914). Broadley was also a celebrated grangeriser (or extra-illustrator) of books, and one of his greatest achievements was the creation, with the assistance of Daniell, of an extra-illustrated set of Rose\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Life of Napoleon I&nbsp;<\/em>and Rosebery\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Napoleon. The Last Phase&nbsp;<\/em>by inlaying and extending the works from three octavo to twenty-eight folio volumes with engravings, portraits, manuscripts, autograph letters, etc. over a period of four years. Part I (pp. [7]-125) is \u2018An Index to the Napoleonic Collections Illustrating Mr. J.
