The rich flora of Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, the Society Islands, and Java, as Banks and his companions saw it.
During Captain Cook’s first voyage around the world, Joseph Banks and his artist Sydney Parkinson collected a large number of plants that had not been seen in Europe before and significantly added to our knowledge of botanical species. Under Banks’ supervision and over a period of 13 years, 18 engravers produced 743 engraved plates of the plants from Parkinson’s drawings, but none of them were published during Banks’ lifetime. More than 200 years after the Endeavour‘s return, the complete series of engravings was finally published.
Our new catalogue comprises a selection of these beautifully coloured limited edition prints, presents the plants and their histories, and tells the story of their discovery.
