AMIS, Martin. Night Train. London: Jonathan Cape, 1997.

Octavo, pp. [8 (preliminaries)], 149, [3 (blank)]. Original black boards titled in gilt on the spine, dustwrapper, not price-clipped. (Dustwrapper very lightly creased on the upper panel.) A fine copy in a very good dustwrapper.

First edition. Amis’ ninth novel, which saw a move from his more conventionally literary novels to the thriller — a transition which proved divisive amongst the British critics. Night Train is a typically distinctive variation on the American noir thriller tradition, through which the leitmotif of variations musical, metaphorical and physical on the jazz standard ‘Night Train’ runs.
