Since its foundation, Type & Forme has been a trusted provider of valuations of rare books, manuscripts, literary archives, scientific objects, engravings and drawings, and more for UK and international private collectors, institutional libraries, museums, and corporations.
Together, the partners of Type & Forme have more than 50 years of experience in preparing valuations for insurance purposes, probate, and Arts Council England’s Acceptance in Lieu scheme. We also act in the capacity of independent valuers for items offered for private sale at the major UK auction houses. Our valuations cover anything from single items to complete collections and archives.

Our valuations are based on physical examinations of the objects to be valued and thorough research into their history, which benefits from our scholarly knowledge of the rare book market and institutional collections. The current market value of each item or collection is established with state-of-the-art tools including historic auction records as well as our company archive of valuations as a point of comparison.
We handle all valuations in the strictest confidence. For each valuation we provide a detailed written report that fulfils all formal criteria for valuations of their kind as well as, often, telling the owner more about the history of their possessions than they were previously aware of.
